One short but very important post this time. Don’t be a fool (as I was) and add advertising all over the page. Nobody likes to search through the site for actual content especially in newly discovered blogs. There is no problem with ads on the sidebar as long that the main text stays in one peace and not broken to peaces. What about some large blogs with a lot of traffic? Yes, some of them have ads everywhere, but there is a difference. One way or another, in a large blog you somehow expect quality. But there are so many newly created blogs people just haven’t got the time to visit and check them all. Why scare them away with adverts..

Make me Web 2.0 - Tips & Tricks no.1

Discussions about the term Web 2.0 are not yet over. Is it a myth, standard or something completely different? Web 2.0 is all about users and functionality. As far as I know, in order to make a Web 2.0 compliant page you need shiny-but-still-minimalistic graphic, fully dynamical content and easy to navigate/use/understand interface. Let’s presume that you don’t know how to make your own design for a hobby Web 2.0 wannabe homepage. Would you hire somebody or would you try to figure it out alone and do it yourself?

Let’s start with a nice looking logo. Just yesterday I found a post on meandmydrum.com with a link to a nifty page which can help us make a Web 2.0 logo - freshbadge.com. It is almost design-idiot-proof with providing nice graphic with little or no sense for styling. Ok, I said almost.. Look at my first “creation”.. Yep, I need to try it again

Be more visible on Google - Step #1

It is interesting how one easy solution can change so much when it comes to Google search. When I had to find a domain name for this site I didn’t want any largely used words. Some will say that is exactly the opposite of the SEO (search engine optimization). “It needs to be the word that is used all the time with that niche.” So I would have to use some kind of word like blog, blogging, bloggingtips4you? Would you find this blog, if you knew one word in domain was blogging? And now use Google search box on the right and type anynum. This blog is at the moment on the fifth place. That would of course be very different with keyword blogging. Maybe, just maybe I would be on the 20+ page.

So what to do to be more visible on Google? Use your unique names and put them wherever you can. This post has been inspired by http://www.snoskred.org/2007/08/blog-hints-refer-to-yourself-in-third.html
After some (re)search I’ve found another blog with kinda same subject - blogpond.com.au.

In my previous article How to make more traffic for my blog - Part #1 we tried a feature on Fechr. This site would be viewed by 500+ visitors in 24 hours by getting on their front page. Still waiting for that day though..

Today’s piece of advice will be more valuable. Or let me say it in another way, this is THE thing you must do to get noticed on this big world wide web. In short, Technorati is a search engine for blog posts. And what do they say about them selfs? “Currently tracking 101.7 million blogs and over 250 million pieces of tagged social media.”
To get an account, click here. After registration it’s time to claim your blog. It needs to be authenticated by providing username and password for your blog or by temporary writing a post with one defined link. By filling some your blog relevant tabs for Technorati users you are done.

How does it all work?
Technorati has two ranking lists for bloggers. One is Top 100 Most Favorited where users rank blogs by making them their favorite. One experiment can be seen on Dosh Dosh btw. More users have one blog as a favorite, higher that blog is on the list. The other one is Top 100 Most Linked To blogs where all it counts is the number of links from different sites to that specific blog.

So, wanna be seen by lots of blog readers? Join the community, make tabs that are somehow related to your content and post frequently. Or as they say on paulstamatiou.com: “Technorati is your best friend.”

WordPress Plugin of the Week #1

Wordpress is the leading blogging software. And it just might stay that way for a while as developers just released another beta version of WordPress. Although the software itself contains a lot of useful options, the power still comes from the ability to customize your blogging experience with add-ons or as we call them Plugins. They are extensions to the basic functionality available in WordPress. (Quote from wiki.wordpress)

Installation into WordPress is for most of them extremely easy:
Step 1 - find a plugin and download it
Step 2 - unzip and upload to wp-content/plugins folder
Step 3 - go to Plugins/Plugins in your WordPress Admin panel and activate the plugin

How important it is to have as many plugins as possible?
There are numerous plugins which all serve its purpose. Some of them are good for fighting against spam and you can see stats with others.

Today’s featured plugin is a must-have for every new blogger.
All in One SEO Pack or as the author calls it - Automatic Search Engine Optimization (SEO)

The main quest not only for beginners, but also for experts in this field, is to get as high on the rank in search queries as possible. So what does this plugin actually do?

It puts another options page in admin panel with some options like site’s title, description, keywords. Which can be manageable for every singe post. This is especially useful if you write posts on lots of different topics. So, if you haven’t got it already, get it now!

How to make more traffic for my blog - Part #1

My previous article Top 43 Free Blog Hosts gave you a list of many free hosting services. Some of them have flaws and some are almost perfect for those who want to make a new blog without any costs. It’s not the best way for a good career in blogging to have just a subdomain, but it’s a start. So by now you have your own blog with few posts and no visitors. What to do?

One good opportunity is fairly new site Fechr (it’s pronounced “feature”), which displays one blog on their site for 24 hours. At the moment they do it for no cost. All you need to do is write about them on your blog. So it is clearly a win-win situation - you promote them on your blog, they promote your blog on their page. The only catch at the moment is Fechr won’t promote low quality sites, so all you really need is some content readers would like to see. What are you waiting for,

The popularity is growing and as you can see here and here, everybody wants free advertisement.
